Finding great dining options in Rome around the holidays may seem challenging, but don’t fret! While some restaurants will be closed, a number of outstanding places will be open for Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. Here are a few of our suggestions. Be sure to reserve a table well in advance.
Our five favorites for fine dining will be open during the Christmas period. Indulge in a traditional Christmas Eve fish feast at Il Sanlorenzo. The restaurant will be open for dinner only on Christmas Eve and New Year’s.
Metamorfosi will be serving a special 5-course fish-based menu for lunch on Santo Stefano (December 26). They will also be open on New Year’s Eve for dinner only and will serve a €220 prix fixe menu, excluding drinks. January 1, Metamorfosi is closed for lunch, but will be open at dinner. Pipero al Rex will also have a prix fixe menu for dinner on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and will be open for lunch and dinner on December 24, 25, 31, and January 1. Antico Arco has a €220 prix fixe menu on New Year’s Eve and will be open for lunch and dinner on December 24, 25 and 31. Also in the fine dining category (but not yet reviewed on TRD), All’Oro will serve a prix fixe menu on December 24 for dinner, December 25 at lunch and on New Year’s Eve.
For Roman classics at moderate prices, head to Cesare al Casaletto for lunch on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day. Roscioli will be open for lunch only on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Romeo will offer lunch on December 24 and lunch and dinner on New Year’s Eve.
Mesob will be serving a buffet dinner on New Year’s Eve, including zighinì, doro wot, alicha wot, lentils and seasonal vegetables. The €35 price also includes water, wine, dessert and a traditional coffee ritual.
It is also worth noting that most kosher restaurants in the Ghetto will be open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
